Department: Guest Experience and Partnerships

Supervisor: VP Guest Service and Community Partnerships

Classification: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

The Javits Center is one of the busiest convention centers in the United States, hosting leading conventions, trade shows, and special events on Manhattan’s West Side. These events generate billions of dollars in annual economic activity for New York City and New York State, supporting thousands of jobs.

Located between West 34th and West 40th Streets, the Javits Center features more than 850,000 square feet of exhibition space, expanded meeting rooms, a rooftop pavilion and terrace, and a wide range of sustainability and technology-driven services.

Program Overview

The Javits Emerging Leaders Program (JELP) is a paid summer internship designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders through hands-on experience, mentorship, and professional development.

Program Dates: June 8 – August 14

Interns will gain real-world experience, contribute to impactful projects, and participate in a structured leadership development program.

Position Summary

The JELP Intern will be an integral member of the Guest Experience & Partnerships team, contributing to initiatives that enhance visitor engagement, service delivery, and partnership activations across events. This role is designed to go beyond traditional support—interns will take ownership of meaningful work that directly impacts the guest experience, operational excellence, and overall event success.

Through hands-on work, mentorship, and a capstone project, interns will develop in-demand skills in customer experience strategy, event operations, stakeholder coordination, and problem-solving, empowering them to grow as future leaders and confidently take the next step in their careers.

Essential Functions

Core Responsibilities (All Interns):

Support departmental initiatives and daily operations

Collaborate with cross-functional teams

Participate in all JELP programming and events

Contribute to and complete assigned capstone project

Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and initiative

Department-Specific Responsibilities:

Assist with guest experience programs and wayfinding

Support vendor and partnership coordination

Collect and analyze guest feedback

Support event-day operations and service delivery

Basic Qualifications:

Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate)

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred majors in Hospitality, Tourism, or Management

Strong customer service and communication skills

Ability to work in fast-paced environments

Program Requirements

Must be available to work full-time onsite at the Javits Center for the duration of the program.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored visa support now or in the future.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university.
